Rivi 1: Rivi 1:
That varies, of course, depending on whether you're going to class, a studio dance or a competition.
New parents are full of concerns about what regular household activities may pose a threat or present problems for their newest family member. At some point the question about the best ways to wash baby clothing will arise. Parents typically ask whether there is a certain type off detergent that they should use, whether it is safe to wash baby clothes with the rest of the family's clothing and what special steps should be taken with cloth diapers if they are being used.

I often hear the question - 'What kind of shoes should I wear to dance in? It's my opinion that the very best choices for footwear are those designed especially for ballroom dancing and even more specifically for the exact dance style you plan to be doing. But until such time as you decide to reward yourself with that sexy strappy Latin shoe with the Cuban heel for the cha-cha or rhumba, or a gorgeous sequined number for the elegant waltz, practicing in street shoes is perfectly acceptable.
Detergent

Now...having said that, let me quickly add that not just any street shoe will do. Styles that should be avoided include anything with rubber soles, like sneakers, (they just don't give you the slide you need on the floor), open-toes (for obvious reasons, you're still learning and chances are so is your partner), such as sandals or (heaven forbid) flip-flops! And yes, I've actually seen people show up for class wearing flip flops! Try to execute a double spin in those!
This is a valid concern. It is not atypical for certain detergents to irritate the skin of adults and older children, so it is certainly feasible that a baby's tender and sensitive skin can be easily irritated by harsh detergents. There are several detergents on the market that are supposedly intended for baby's clothing, but there is not much difference between them and other mild detergents. The best choice for parents to make in this area is to purchase mild detergent that is free from added colors and fragrances and wash the clothing in that. If the baby does develop a rash or seems to be experiencing skin discomfort of any kind, the first thing to do is consult the family pediatrician. The doctor may simply recommend that a different detergent be used, but will also be able to determine if there is a more serious problem.

But, if you have a leather soled shoe, such as a loafer-type, or for men, a dress shoe style, these will usually accomodate you nicely. The most important factor is that they must be comfortable and not tight on your feet. If your feet are aching, you'll soon be unable to focus on anything else.
Washing Baby Clothes with Family Clothes

The dance floor itself plays a part in the comfort level of your feet. Some studios have the proper flooring for dancing, which usually includes a cushiony, almost spring-like underflooring. This type floor enables dancers to dance for hours without feeling much effect...IF their shoes are also adequately comfortable. But some dance studios are built on a concrete slab, with only a layer of hardwood over it, and on those floors your poor feet will take a pounding.
Some parents feel that the baby's clothing needs to be washed separately from that of the rest of the family. The rationale for this is that the other family members' clothing could somehow taint or contaminate the baby's. There is no reason to worry about this and it is perfectly safe to wash baby's clothes and bedding along with everyone else's. The exception to this rule is cloth diapers. If parents are using cloth diapers and washing them at home rather than using a diaper service, they must be washed apart from everything else.

When the time comes that you decide to invest in a good pair of dance shoes, shop around a bit. Prices and styles vary and the selection is almost endless. Prices can range from $30-50 on the low end to well over $200 on the high end. Dance shoes are designed not only to be best suited for dancing, but to enhance the overall aesthetics of your dance...you'll simply look better out there on the floor.
Cloth Diapers

Many of the features of dance shoes serve practical purposes. The ankle straps are not just eye-appealing, they actually help your feet stay firmly in your shoes. Some of the pump styles have elasticized rims on the uppers which 'hugs' the shoe to your foot. The heels are different heights and widths, depending on the style of dance they're designed for. The soles are typically suede, which gives you the ability to literally 'glide' as you dance across the floor, and are especially helpful when doing turns and spins.
Cloth diapers are fading into memory, replaced by the more convenient disposable brands that are on the market. For families that choose to use these, however, there are some special considerations. The most sanitary way to utilize reusable cloth diapers is to contract a diaper service. This will take away the hassle of washing the diapers at home and ensure that the replacement diapers are sterile. For families that choose to wash at home, the previous paragraph details that they should be kept separate from all other laundry. Storing the diapers until wash time must be done as sanitarily as possible. This means rinsing the cloth diaper in the toilet to remove solid wastes, then storing it in a pail until it is time to be washed. The pail should be covered to prevent odor and lined with a disposable or washable liner. The pail, lid, and liner should be cleaned whenever the diapers are and the soiled diapers should be washed at least twice weekly.

To preserve the life of these suede soles, dance shoes should never be worn outside. Two other accessories that will extend the wear of your dance shoes - a carrying case for transporting them, and a sole brush to lift the nap of the suede every couple of weeks or so.
