Many cultures use rings within marriage ceremonies, wearing wedding bands on the fourth finger of the left hand, although some cultures use the right hand. The tradition is based around the old belief that the fourth finger was connected by a vein directly to the heart. This belief can be traced back to ancient Rome who claimed that the ancient Egyptians had found this link.
