When crate training a puppy, try to make your puppy feel like the crate is his home. At meal times, try to place their food in the crate by leaving the door wide open while they're eating. This way, your dog will associate positive things with being inside the crate.

Make certain you're consistent when you are crate training your young puppy. When letting a puppy out of a crate, you need to let them relieve themselves immediately. Eventually, your dog will wait until you let him out of his crate to relive himself.

Regulate your dog's feeding time if you want to regulate his "potty" times too. To have your dog on a consistent bathroom schedule, have him or her eating quality food about two or three times every day, at the exact same time. Doing so allows you to gain a clearer picture of when your puppy might need to relieve himself outdoors.

When training your dog, one of the first commands they should be aware of is the "drop" command, which lets them know they should drop any items they have in their mouth. This is a good way to keep your dog from chewing things and make sure they do not chew dangerous objects.

It is important to avoid dwelling on one task for too long. Remember that a dog has a short attention span and cannot focus on one thing for too long. Try limiting training sessions to 10 minutes or less.

When training your dogs, always use the same tone of voice and volume level when you give a command. The dog will know you're telling them what to do that way. It will also let the dog know the difference between an angry voice, a happy voice and an authoritative voice.

Make training with your dog fun. Playful interaction strengthens the bond between you, and will have your dog striving even harder to please you during training. Despite the fun the two of you will have during training, it is important to set aside time that is designated to enjoyment only, with no work or training involved.

When taking your dog on a trip, be sure to have collar and leash, food and water, your dog's bed and plenty of plastic bags to clean up after your dog. Water, bowls, bathroom bags and paper towels are good things to have to help everything run smoothly. You do not have to bring some food for your dog with you because you can easily find quality food anywhere you go.

Make sure your dog knows how to obey, to reduce the frequency of their barks. For instance, whenever your dog is barking, hold a treat in front of them and continue to repeat "be quiet" until they quit barking. Then, you can award your dog with a treat. Enough repetitions will result in the dog associating the treat with the command and remaining quiet.

When training your dog, it is best that you give them treats whenever they do what you're telling them to do.
